Carrier Embargo Of Lithium Ion Batteries – UN3480/PI965

There has been exposure in the media recently about the risks of transporting Lithium Ion Batteries (UN3480) by air. The ICAO Dangerous Goods Panel has decided to set up a task force to explore new standards relating to UN3480 which may in due course result in changes to the ICAO / IATA regulations for transporting Lithium Ion Batteries UN3480 by air.

Numerous airlines have already imposed restrictions on the acceptance and / or carriage of that Lithium Ion Batteries UN3480. Such restrictions vary from airline to airline, and range from revised acceptance procedures to full embargoes from passenger flights, and even in some cases freighter services.

The above airline restrictions are limiting the transportation by air of shipments containing Lithium Ion Batteries UN3480 packed in accordance with Section IA, IB or II of Packing Instruction 965. Jet Worldwide (Aust) Pty Ltd management has therefore decided to stop accepting shipments containing Lithium Ion Batteries UN3480 PI965 (all Sections) for impacted routes with immediate effect until further notice.
